ACM/ICPC/ANARC: 2009 Archive

The ACM/ICPC 2009 Arab & North Africa 12th Regional Contest was hosted by the Arab Academy for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Egypt, 22-24 November 2009. The contest took place at the Academy, with the opening being held at the historic & prestigious Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

The Participants

45 teams from 29 Universities have registered for the contest. Nine countries were represented: Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates. Click here for the detailed roster.

The Contest

The problem-set was made of 10 problems. For the first time in the history of the region, all teams managed to solve the speed problem which was problem-D ("Probability One") To the judges' surprise, more teams solved problem-A ("Seinfeld") than the second easiest problem-B ("Tiles of Tetris, NOT!"). No team managed to solve problem-H ("Land Division") or problem-J ("National Treasures") although few teams made a number of attempts on them. Click here for a summary of solved problems.

The contest environment supported three programming languages: C, C++, and Java. Only one team used C, and the majority are still favoring C++. Click here for a report on language-related statistics.
